Full of Poetic Beauty

彭先生的园林系列作品是我最喜爱的，读起来赏心悦目。一日与彭先生聊起他的近作《印象雨湖》，说是刚画完没几天就让朋友收走了，话语里透露出万般不舍。园林系列为何让人如此珍爱，引起藏友们如此高的收藏热情，我认为：一是画作的艺术性；二是题材本身的人文气息。

Mr. Peng’s garden series works are my favorite and they feast my eyes. One day I talked with Mr. Peng about his recent painting Impression of Rain Lake and he told me that the painting was collected by a friend just after it was finished a few days. I can feel his reluctance in his words. Why garden series works gain so much popularity and obtain so high collection enthusiasm from the friends in the collection circle? In my opinion, one is the artistry of the paintings; the other is the cultural atmosphere of theme itself.

创作者不拘泥于亭台楼榭一砖一瓦的刻画，不局限于草木配置堆山叠石的细节描摹，意在表达视觉的流动性和空间的渗透与层次，体现出开阔的眼界与自在的状态。雨湖、沱江是我非常熟悉的地方，在湘潭的四年时间里，曾在雨湖公园写生过，游玩过数次，对公园里的景致再熟悉不过。沱江，则是由湘西凤凰苗族的好友带领着去游玩的。看到彭先生笔下的印象雨湖、沱江春雨，感觉是如此的真切，将雨湖和沱江的气质与格局展现得淋漓尽致。将一处风景领悟到深刻并不容易，这需要观者的人文素养与智慧心性。将内心对风景的领悟生动地展现在画布上更加不易，不仅需要高超的技艺，还需要对灵感激情的把握。彭先生的画作体现出他作为文人和作为艺术家的综合素质。阴雨天的天空和水面渲染得润泽灵动，轻松的笔触掠过，水纹便跳跃起来。用层次丰富而不出跳的绿色表现江南园林的葱茏与生机。运用国画的线条语言和墨色表现树木枝叶的舒展，具有笔墨意味和飞舞神韵。

The originator is not restricted by the depiction of the pavilion, the brick and the tile and he is also not limited by details tracing of the match of grass and trees as well as the pile of stones, but mean to express visual mobility and special permeation and gradation, which shows open mind and free state. Rain Lake and Tuojiang River are familiar to me. I once stayed in Xiangtan city for 4 years. I painted from life in Rain Lake and visited it many times, so I’m quite familiar with the landscape in the garden. For Tuojiang River, a friend of Miao nationality from Fenghuang County in western Hunan Province took me to travel there. After seeing Impression of Rain Lake and Spring Rain of Tuojiang River painted by Mr. Peng, I felt they are quite vivid, for they show the temperament and pattern of Rain Lake and Tuojiang River incisively and vividly. It is not easy to understand a landscape deeply, which needs the observer’s humanistic quality and wisdom. It is more difficult to reveal the understanding on the landscape on the canvas, which not only needs painter’s superb skills, but also the appropriate grasp on the inspiration and passion. Mr. Peng’s paintings embody his comprehensive qualities as a scholar and artist. The sky and water surface in rainy days are rendered moistly and dynamically. The drift of the easy brushwork makes water wave move. Besides, Mr. Peng employs gradation-rich and less obvious green to show viridityand vitality of garden on the Yangtze delta. He utilizes line language and ink color of Chinese painting to demonstrate the stretch of the leaves on trees, which has brushwork meaning and flying charm.

如果说文学是时间的印记，绘画是空间的表达，那么，园林则是时空综合的艺术再现。彭先生凭借其开阔的心境、良好的素养和高超的技艺，生动地展现了园林风景的流动空间，传达出恬静悠然的意境之美，让人流连忘返。

If we say literature is the mark of time and painting is the expression of space, so, gardens are art reproductions of the combination of time and space. By virtue of open mind, good attainment and superb skills, Mr. Peng vividly reveals the flowing space of garden scenery and conveys artistic conception of quietness and leisure, which attracts people to enjoy them.
